Families are losing pets as well as their family homes.  This is direct result of rising foreclosures on homes in the US due to the sub prime mortgage financial crisis.

According to Ross Farrow of lodinews.com in California, Stacey Moreno is in distress.

"Stacey Moreno is heartbroken - heartbroken in two ways.

She is losing her home to foreclosure.  She must vacate her Park West house by February 18.

But just as bad she says, is the idea of losing the cat and dog she loves so much.

'This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do,' Moreno wrote in an advertisement she placed Sunday night on Craigslist. 'If I don't find a place for them to go, I will have no choice but to put them down, and I would rather die first.'

Moreno is one of the pet owners who are finding one of the cruelest cuts of the foreclosure process is that they often must give up their pet animals."

Australia is also experiencing financial and home difficulties and our animal pounds and shelters are experiencing high numbers of dumped pets.

An independent animal welfare charity RSPCA, has shelters that receive more than 138,000 animals per year and take in not only cats and dogs but horses, livestock and a wide range of wild and native animals.

Animals have become the innocent pawns in the sub prime mortgage financial crisis and don't deserve to be dumped or killed.  Responses to Ross Farrow's article suggested that Stacey Moreno try to find pet animal sitters to help mind her pets whilst she found other suitable accommodation.  Shelters like the RSPCA can also help with unwanted pets.
